Summer Success/Academy

Experience the wonders of high school through an interdisciplinary and "hands-on" approach to learning.  The Summer Success 2012 program offers an introduction to high school life and real life learning.  This program will help provide your child with the head start needed to ensure their success throughout their high school career.

In the Summer Success program students will participate in rigorous individualized instruction in English and Math, team building activities, and an introduction to the high school advisory program, in a class setting with a team of teachers, ensuring a low student/teacher ratio.  Students who attend Summer Success may be eligible to earn .5 high school credit. *

Summer Academy is a transition program designed for students who have been identified as gifted/talented, who have participated in an Honors program during their 8th grade year, or who have completed acccelerated/advanced Math and/or English courses during their middle school grades.  The program utilizes a Project-Based Learning approach to prepare students for the challenges of high school honors courses, and also includes a Leadership Development component.

The cost for Summer Success/Academy is $25 (fee waivers may be available) and bus transportation is provided for students living within district boundaries and more than 1.5 miles away from Agua Fria High school.  The program also provides free breakfast and lunch.

*Students who are required to attend the Summer Success program in order to promote will not earn high school credit for attending the session.  Those students who attend the program on a voluntary basis to get a head start in high school and successfully complete the program will receive .5 ( 1/2) high school credit.

Reading Immersion

This summer program is for students whose 8th grade AIMS or English Language Arts benchmark scores indicate they would benefit from an intense support program to increase their reading fluency and comprehension.  The program utilizes a combination of the READ 180 program and research-based classroom strategies to assist students in improving reading and writing skills in preparation for the demands of high school English courses.  The program is by invitation only - students who qualify will receive a letter in mid-April.

The cost for the Reading Immersion Program is $25 (fee waivers may be available) and bus transportation is provided for students living within district boundaries and more than 1.5 miles away from Agua Fria High school.  The program also provides free breakfast and lunch.
