  • ACT- American College Test and is accepted by all Arizona universitites and four-year colleges and by many out of state instititutions. The test requires approximately 4 hours to complete and may be taken by juniors and seniors. Test dates, online registration and study information may be found at http://www.act.org/
  • SAT I - Scholastic Assessment Test is required by many out-of-state colleges, universities and the service academies; Arizona universities also accept this test.  The SAT requires approximately 4 hours to complete.  It may also be taken by juniors and seniors.  Applications, study information and other resources may be found at http://www.collegeboard.com/
  • SAT II - Scholastic Subject Area Assessment may be required by an out-of-state school for entrace placement.  Each test requires one hour.  One, two or three may be taken on any one test date.  For more information visit http://www.collegeboard.com/
  • TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - If your native language is not English, and you have lived in the United States less than two years, you can take the TOEFL instead of the ACT or SAT as a college entrance exam.  The purpose of the TOEFL is to evaluate your English proficiency. 
  • Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualification Test (PSAT/NMSQT) - is a practice test for the SAT and is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship program.  Only juniors are eligible to participate in the National Merit Scholarship program.  If there is space available, sophomores are invited to take the test. 
  • ASVAB-Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test - The ASVAB is a student testing program designed to identify your aptitudes and help you develop future education and career plans. This test is also used by the Armed Forces for job skills assessment and assignment.
  • ASSET PLACEMENT TEST/ACCUPLACER/COMPASS-Students who plan to attend a Maricopa County Community College must take one of the tests listed here.  Students may take the test at the community college or they may take it here at MHS in the Spring.

Preparing for the SAT takes time and dedication on your part.  Try to use a study guide like "10 Real SAT Tests" to help you.  This is a book full of retired SAT tests.  It also includes a CD-rom.
