"Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are."

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to the new school year!  I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and to welcome you to my Read 180 classroom. This will be my 8th year teaching in the Agua Fria Union High School District and my 7th year at Agua Fria High School.  I graduated Summa Cum Laude from ASU West with a degree in Special Education.  In addition to this being my 3rd year teaching Read 180, I also manage a case load of Special Needs students.

Read 180 is a  research based intensive reading intervention program.  It  is designed to address the specific needs of struggling readers by utilizing exciting software, small and whole group direct instruction, and modeled and independent reading.  Students rotate and work daily in each of the three Read 180 areas for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. Time spent in the computerized reading module is critical to the success of each student therefore it is extremely important that students attend class daily and are well rested and ready to learn. Topics covered are interesting and relevant to teenagers today.  With diligence and hard work, all students can be successful in Read 180 and can look forward to improving their reading scores.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  E-mail is the fastest and easiest way to get in touch with me and I will respond within 24 hours.  If you prefer, you may call 623-932-7300, ext. 11057 and leave a message and I will return your call at my earliest opportunity.  My classroom door is always open and parent participation is wholeheartedly welcome and deeply appreciated. I am looking forward to the work and growth we will all accomplish this year!

Educationally Yours,

Peggy Hewitt
