Paul Traugott, Director of Bands
Paul Traugott is beginning his third year at Desert Edge High School. He came to the school with 15 years of high school band and orchestra experience along with 3 years collegiate experience. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado and his Bachelor of Music Education from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. His Masters of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction was earned from Colorado Christian University. When not working directly with high shool band programs, he worked as a drum line instructor for over 10 years and started his own drill and design company, writing marching band shows for bands across Colorado. Mr. Traugott held an officer's position in the Colorado Bandmasters Association for 10 years before moving to Arizona and was twice awarded Teacher of the Year for District 51 in Grand Junction. His concert bands at Central High School of Grand Junction were regular qualifiers for the distinguished State Concert Band Festival and consistently scored superior ratings at multiple events every year. His jazz bands were invited to open the Grand Junction Jazz and Arts Festival for 5 consecutive years and traveled throughout Colorado performing at different venues and festivals, scoring superior ratings regularly. His marching band never missed qualifying for State Championships and placed between 13th and 6th. He takes great pride in creating a well rounded program in which a multitude of students can particpate.
