Good nutrition is important to learning. Students behave better, have longer attention spans and are more eager to learn when they eat healthy meals. AFUHSD Food & Nutrition Services wants to ensure all AFUHSD students are ready to focus on their lessons every day. The stigma of the “traditional school lunch” is challenging to overcome, but AFUHSD Food & Nutrition Services is working hard to provide exciting menu options of Choice and quality. An array of ala carte options are available each day. Our goal is to provide high quality food choices that meet nutritional guidelines.

AFUHSD will participate in the Meal Benefit Program (Free & Reduced Meals) for the 2025-2026 school year. With the Meal Benefit Program, students will be responsible for purchasing their breakfast and lunch meals. Students may qualify for free or reduced meals.

How to apply for free or reduced breakfast and lunch

Students may qualify for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Families are encouraged to complete and submit a Meal Benefit Application for 2025-26 school year after July 1st, 2025.  You can apply online or you can download a paper application and return it to your student’s cafeteria. A new application is required each school year.

To ensure that children who rely on free or reduced-price meals at school are able to get the nutrition they need, USDA is working with states to continue providing meals to students.

Also, the USDA National Hunger Hotline remains a helpful resource for people seeking food assistance. The hotline, operated by Hunger Free America, can be reached Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. at 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (1-877-842-6273) (for Spanish).
