Supervising Teachers and Teachers of Record

Each grade level is assigned supervising teachers, and each course has a designated Teacher of Record (TOR). Supervising teachers serve as the primary point of contact for students and families, providing support in monitoring academic progress, navigating online learning platforms, and maintaining communication with the school. They are also responsible for facilitating learning support and coaching.

Teachers of Record are subject-area experts who assess and grade student work. Students may contact their TOR directly for content-specific questions or to arrange tutoring. All tutoring sessions are conducted during regular school hours.

AFO instruction is delivered through Imagine Edgenuity courseware, with AFHSD-certified teachers monitoring student progress and available to provide support. Instruction is not conducted live except during scheduled tutoring sessions. Students may communicate with their teachers via email, video conferencing, or voice calls.

While there is no fixed daily schedule, students are required to log in each school day and complete lessons for attendance purposes. To remain on track for timely course completion, students should pace themselves to finish by the end of the semester (December 15, 2025, and May 18, 2026 — dates set before the final day of each semester to allow time for cumulative exams). Deadlines for graduating seniors in Spring 2026 will be earlier.

Cumulative exams (finals) for each course will be scheduled at the end of the semester and must be completed at home during school hours, on an AFHSD-issued Chromebook. The student’s Chromebook has the necessary software pre-installed. Students who complete coursework early may arrange with their supervising teacher to take cumulative exams before the scheduled testing days.

Online students are also required to take the same AFHSD benchmark tests as in-person students. These tests are mandated by the State of Arizona. Benchmark testing will take place in person at the student’s home school. Specific details regarding who needs to take the tests, the testing dates, and deadlines will be provided during the semester as they become available.
