Carlos Zelaya, Financial Literacy
Carlos is a retired veteran of the United States Armed Forces. Of his 25 years of service, seven were served in the United States Air Force and the rest in the California Army National Guard. He has two combat deployments to Iraq and several tours on active duty. He retired as the First Sergeant of a Cavalry Troop in July of 2019. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Lead Cluster, the Iraq Campaing Medal with four Bronze Campaing Stars, and the Army Service Ribbon. He is also a Tank Master Gunner.
Carlos earned a M.Ed. from ASU, a B.A. in Economics - International Area Studies from UCLA, and an A.A.S. in Logistics Management from the CCAF. He has been teaching at Agua Fria since August of 2015 and has taught Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II (Honors and regular), and Financial Literacy.
He is married to his wife of five years and they have a son and daughter. He is fluent in Spanish and Italian and can carry a simple conversation in German.
