Christopher Collins, Physical Education
My name is Chris Collins and I am excited to begin my first year at Desert Edge as the Strength and Conditioning Coach! Before moving to Arizona, I spent three years at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Bethune-Cookman University is also my alma mater so it was a great experience getting an opportunity to coach at the college I graduated from. As a student-athlete at B-CU, I was a member of the Track and Field team competing in the Javelin Throw. I competed at B-CU for three seasons and as a team we won the conference championship every year! Individually, I was the bronze medalist (3rd place) my Junior year and the gold medalist (1st place) my senior year at the conference championship. After graduating from B-CU, I had an extra year of eligibility so I attended Arkansas State University to work on my master's degree and also compete on the track and field team. I competed at the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championship Rounds for both B-CU and ASU and I am the school record holder at B-CU and #2 all time at ASU.
My goal as the Strength and Conditioning Coach is to make sure our student-athletes at Desert Edge are prepared for competition so they can represent us on their respective playing surface but I also want ALL of the Scorpions to be engaged and able to understand the importance/benefits of physical activity to live a healthy life. There are also numerous lessons that are learned through training that you will find very valuable as you navigate through life!
