Shawna Randels, Fine Arts
Shawna RandelsMy name is Shawna Randels and I am one of the Dance teacher here at Desert Edge. I have been involved in the art of dance for over 30 years. I received a large amount of my dance training from a local Phoenix dance studio, Dance Connection Scottsdale. I continued my dance training while in high school as a member of the Performance Dance Company at Westview High School for three years and by being a member of the Varsity Pom Line for three years. I also have a background in Cheerleading. I was an All-Star Cheerleader in my teen years and was a college cheerleader at GCC as well. I was a Song/Pom Leader for United Spirit Association for 2 years in college. I have also been a dance teacher at local dance studios as well as a private instructor. I have always had a passion for dance and thought a great way to make a difference in kids lives would be to give back all of the training, knowledge, and schooling I have received back to my community by becoming a high school dance teacher. In fulfilling this passion to connect with high school students, I continued my higher education at Arizona State University. I graduated in the Herberger College of Fine Arts with a Bachelors degree in Dance Education and a certification in Secondary Education. My love for dance continues to grow everyday because of the job I have and the lives that have been touched through the opportunity of dance.
Desert Edge Dance
This is the 14th year of our dance program, Scorpion Dance Company here at Desert Edge High School and also my 12th year being the dance teacher and director here at Desert Edge. Our program consists of Performance Dance, Advanced Dance, Intermediate Dance, and Beginning Dance. Throughout the semester we will have fundraisers, rehearsals, after school practices, and Dance Concerts. The Dance Concerts are in December and May in the Auditorium here at Desert Edge. The Dance Concert is a commitment from the students and the parents and is something that will be fun, exciting, and rewarding for all involved. After school participation and commitment will be important the week of the concert. I hope this gives you a little more information on what events and commitments are involved in this class. I look forward to working with your sons and daughters this year and years to come.
