Amanda Barnes, English

  • Miss Barnes was born in Mesa, Arizona in the Summer of '88.  She spent her youth enjoying PBS, reading books, and writing a science fiction series titled Planet Egg.  Her time in high school was spent playing the violin with mediocre ability, nerding out with the Academic Decathlon Team and Shakespeare Club, and writing weird articles in Chiller font for the school newspaper.  She wore a lot of black, even though Mesa, Arizona is very hot.  In college, Miss Barnes loved her English and anthropology classes, was not particularly excited about communal bathrooms, and learned that not all sushi actually has fish in it (Miss Barnes enjoys a good avocado roll).  After graduating from ASU the first time, Miss Barnes decided she should go back.  This habit has yet to be broken, so Miss Barnes probably has homework, too.   Miss Barnes began teaching in August 2013 at Verrado High School, and she is so very glad that she drove from Tempe to Buckeye (for the first time) for the best job ever.  Miss Barnes now spends her time (outside of teaching business) binge watching Netflix, doing homework, taking the occasional nap, and continuing to nerd out over an ever-growing list of things.
