Mr. Matthew E Gilbert - Transitions / Special Education

  • I am very excited to begin my fifth year at Verrado High School. This will mark my third year as a teacher and fourth year coaching, Viper Football.  Before I became a full time teacher I had spent two years working at Verrado as a Para- Professional in the special education department.  I am originally from Hampden, Maine where I played football and baseball.  After high school I attended St. Joseph’s College of Maine, where I earned my degree in communications with a concentration in Public Relations.  During that time I was a part of three successful Monk baseball teams that won three Conference Championships, a regular season title, and one NAIA New England Championship.

After graduating from St. Joseph’s I moved on to a nine-year career in professional sports, working in a number of different positions with both professional and college sports teams.  As I began to climb the corporate ladder, I decided it was time to return to my true passion of teaching and chose to enroll and earn my Masters of Secondary Education.
