Crosswalk Reminder

Dear Desert Edge Community,

As we all settle into our routines, we want to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of pedestrian safety. Your safety is our top priority, both inside and outside of the school grounds. We have noticed a growing concern regarding students not using the designated crosswalks when crossing the streets around our campus. We want to ensure that all students arrive at school and return home safely every day.

Effective immediately, the Goodyear Police Department will be actively monitoring the crosswalks near our school. It is important to know that jaywalking, or crossing the street outside of designated crosswalks, is not only a safety hazard but also against the law. To avoid any potential citations and, most importantly, to keep yourself and others safe, we strongly urge all students to use the designated
crosswalks when crossing the streets around our school.

  1. Here are a few reminders for safe pedestrian behavior:
Use Designated Crosswalks: Always cross the street at designated crosswalks. These areas are specifically designed to ensure your safety.
  2. Look Both Ways: Before stepping onto the road, remember to look left and right to ensure no vehicles are approaching.
  3. Obey Traffic Signals: Follow traffic signals and pedestrian crossing signals, if available, to ensure a safe crossing.
  4. Avoid Distractions: Put away electronic devices while crossing the street. Your full attention is needed to safely navigate the traffic.
  5. Walk, Don't Run: Always walk when crossing the street. Running can lead to accidents and decreased visibility for drivers.

Let's work together to create a safe environment for everyone here at Desert Edge. Your cooperation in using the crosswalks will not only prevent potential citations but also contribute to a safer and more enjoyable school experience for all.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Let's make pedestrian safety a priority and continue to uphold our school's commitment to the well-being of each and every student.

Stay safe and responsible!
