Stephanie Vaughn Scholarship
Qualifications:
The applicant should be an Agua Fria High School senior who exhibited scholastic struggles early in their high school career but made intentional choices to honor self-evolution and personal growth related to their academic/social success. Applicants should be planning to continue their education via post-secondary schooling, military service, or professional career internship. Student transcripts, attendance, and referrals should demonstrate improvement over a minimum of one full calendar year without an overall decline. Transcripts should also reflect an ACT score and may include SAT, ASVAB, and AP test scores as well.
Submission Requirements:
Applicants must submit:
- One letter of recommendation from an AFHS staff member detailing the student’s early challenges and subsequent turnaround.
- One well-written personal narrative telling the story of the student's tenacity and success given unlikely odds.
This personal statement should include:
- Description of the mindset and cause(s) of the student’s early struggles
- Details regarding the event and/or individual(s) who sparked the student’s change
- List of resources/individuals utilized, and habits changed to make the transformation lasting and successful
- Description of the student’s new mindset and how the student may be able to help others make personal improvements
- Description of student’s post-secondary goals and dreams for his/her future
- List of any additional extracurricular participation (athletics, clubs, church groups, etc.) and how that has impacted you
