• Mastery Learning is the AFHSD approach to instruction, assessment, and grading. It’s built on three core tenets:

    1. Content Mastery: A student’s overall grade is a representation of the standards they’ve mastered in the course.  We value the learning process and that students are provided multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery. 

    2. Growth Mindset: Every student has the opportunity to demonstrate mastery. We value if students learn over when students learn.

    3. Professionalism: Students will leave high school with the necessary skills to be successful in the real world. Incorporating professional standards into instruction enhances students’ ability to adapt to the ever-changing job market.
