• Supervising Teachers and Teachers of Record

Each student will have one supervising teacher, and a teacher of record (TOR) for each of their courses. The student’s supervising teacher will be their main point of contact. Supervising teachers support the student and parents in keeping track of the student’s academic progress, navigating online learning, and maintaining a connection to school. They are the student’s go-to people. Supervising teachers also make themselves available for learning, coaching, and coordinating any tutoring with teachers of record.

Teachers of record are the subject-matter experts who will be grading student work in the courses. Students may reach out to TORs directly with questions, or coordinate with their supervising teacher to schedule any tutoring sessions. All tutoring sessions would happen during typical school hours.

AFO instruction is provided through Imagine Edgenuity courseware with AFHSD appropriately certified teachers monitoring student progress and available to answer questions. None of the instruction is live unless there are scheduled tutoring times; students still have the opportunity to interact with their teachers through email, video, and voice calls.

There is no set daily schedule, but for attendance purposes, students must log in each school day and complete lessons. To finish courses on time, students should pace themselves so that they finish by the end of the semester (December 13, 2024 & May 16, 2025). Deadlines for graduating seniors may be earlier. Cumulative exams (finals) for each course will be scheduled at the end of the semester to be completed from home, during school hours, on an AFHSD Chromebook using GoGuardian. Cumulative exams can be scheduled with a supervising teacher earlier than the scheduled testing days should the student finish the coursework before the scheduled days. Students will also take AFHSD benchmark tests (required by the State of Arizona). These tests will be done in person at their home school. During the semester, there will be specific information about testing and deadlines.
