How do online courses differ from traditional courses?
Posted by:In traditional courses offered at campus-based schools, the students are learning with live instruction. Online, instruction is self-driven with video and audio recordings accompanied by reading. In both instructional models, there are checks for understanding prior to summative assignments.
Please understand, however, that this instruction is asynchronous, so there will not be a live instructor to deliver lessons and provide feedback at all times. Our Supervising Teachers and Teachers of Record (TORs) are available to assist students, but if students need specific help they will most likely need to initiate contact. What supports could students learning online expect?
Posted by:Teachers will regularly check in with students via email and can host virtual office hours for students to log in and speak to teachers directly. Students requesting help will receive it, but may not receive it immediately because their teachers may not be immediately available. Students will receive email, IM, voice, video, or written communication from teachers.
-
Would a student be able to enroll both online and at their campus school?
Posted by:Students would only be able to enroll in one school full time. If a student at a campus has a full schedule, and would like to take an additional course, they may do so through Agua Fria Online through their home campus. Students attending a West-Mec program may also take classes through Agua Fria Online.
-
What would be on a graduate’s diploma?
Posted by:Students graduating from Agua Fria Online would have diplomas from their zoned school and will be able to attend the graduation ceremony for their zoned school.
-
If all of the courses are online, who is teaching them?
Posted by:AFUHSD teachers (Teachers of Record or TOR's) will be grading all of the students’ work. They and Supervising Teachers will also be the teachers supporting the students’ learning with tutoring , virtual office hours, video conferences, or emails. These teachers are on all of our brick and mortar campuses and will be teaching during the school day, so they may not be able to communicate immediately with students.

What happens if a student plagiarizes their work?
Posted by:The teacher of record will report the plagiarism. The student, the student's parents/guardians, the student's counselor, and the student's supervising teacher will be notified. For a first offense, the affected course will be placed on hold. The student will receive a new assignment about plagiarism. The student will not see the course on which they plagiarized listed on their dashboard and will not be able to work on the course until the new assignment is completed. Once complete, the original course will be reinstated and the student can continue to work. For a second offense, the course will be closed. The student may lose the opportunity to take the course online and may need to take the course in person. For any questions about plagiarism, please contact Ms. Nunez at snunez@aguafria.org.
